Job Requirements
Must be a US Citizen 18 years of age or older at the time of assuming office
Must be and remain a resident within the town limits of Fortville, Indiana
Responsibilities
Decision-making power regarding town affairs, other than those preempted by state or federal law
Shares authority with other council members
Establishes and enforces town policy which is decided and bound by the majority vote
Elects a President and Vice President of the Town Council
Elects/appoints a town council member upon the death or resignation of a town council member
May preside over meetings and town halls and ceremonial events (if also elected Town Council President)
Hires and coordinates with the Town Manager and Town Attorney
Participates on subcommittees in town, township, county, district
Appoints advisory bodies and standing committees
Works with Town Clerk-Treasurer

Community service experience
Experience running meetings, managing budgets and contracts
Strong public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills
