Hancock County Auditor

Job Overview

  • The County Auditor is an elected full-time position

  • Offices are located in the Hancock County Annex and regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am until 4 pm

  • Fixed term of four (4) years, for eight (8) out of twelve (12) years

Job Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen 18 years of age or older at the time of assuming office

  • Must be and remain a current resident of Hancock County

Responsibilities

  • Serves as secretary to the Board of County Commissioners

  • Serves as clerk to the County Council

  • Sets and reviews policies for internal controls and processes

  • Responsible for keeping accounts and auditing the record keeping and financial books of the county

  • Provides operational assistance to the Clerk, Recorder, Assessor, and other offices

  • Supervises about 10 full-time and part-time staff

Desired Qualifications (not required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or similar experience

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • 10+years experience in budget management and account reconciliation for large organizations (with over $10M in revenues)

  • 5+ years hiring, managing, supervising, and leading staff
