There are three elected Judges in Hancock County.

Job Overview

  • A Judge is an elected full-time position working at the Hancock County Courthouse, Monday through Friday from 8am until 4pm

  • Fixed term of six years

  • Local courts include Hancock Circuit Court, Superior Court 1 and Superior Court 2

Job Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited institution and pass the Indiana State Bar Examination

  • Must be a practicing attorney and current resident of Hancock County and shall keep an office therein where duties are performed

  • Must be and remain a current resident of Hancock County

Responsibilities

  • Local control is the cornerstone in the delivery of effective and efficient judicial decisions

  • Judges hear a variety of cases, oversee jury cases, and ensure justice is served following legal precedent

  • Supervises various court staff

Qualifications

  • Strong public speaking skills, good verbal and written communication skills

  • 10+ years courtroom experience

  • 5+ years hiring, managing, supervising, and leading staff

Compensation

  • Shared only with serious candidates
