Hancock County Prosecuting Attorney
Job Overview
The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected full-time position
Offices are located in the Hancock Prosecutor’s Office and regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am until 4pm
Fixed term of four (4) years
Job Requirements
J.D. from an accredited institution and pass the Indiana State Bar Examination
Must be a practicing attorney and current resident of Hancock County and shall keep an office therein where duties are performed
Must be and remain a current resident of Hancock County
Cannot have any prior felony convictions
Responsibilities
Represents the State of Indiana in criminal and civil cases
Prosecutes local violators of state laws
Allocates resources based on community priorities, strengths of cases, and workload
Coordinates and works closely with local law enforcement, setting the tone for the community
Sets key performance objectives, example: to decrease repeat offenders and to decrease overall violent statistics in the county
Responds to and supports some 24x7x365 on-call events with local law enforcement
Supervises about 20 full-time and part-time staff
Desired Qualifications (not required)
Demonstrated history of community engagement
5+ years courtroom cross-examination or jury case experience
5+ years hiring, managing, supervising, and leading staff
