The town of Greenfield was chosen as the Hancock County seat on April 11, 1828. The Commissioners announced, "The seat of Justice of Hancock County shall be known and designated by the name and title of Greenfield."

Responsibilities
The mayor is the chief executive officer for the city
Enforces ordinances of the city and statutes of the state
Directs the administrative structure, appointing and removing department heads
Presiding officer of the city council
Approves or vetos city ordinances and contracts of the city
Ensures efficient government of the city
Fills vacancies in the city
Assigns council members to serve on committees
Appoints citizens to serve on advisory boards and commissions
Prepares and reports on annual budgets
Serves on various boards and commissions

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
Prior history of public service or military service
Experience running meetings, managing budgets, and setting policy
