BACKGROUND:

SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT AGENDA ITEMS AND KEY POINTS:

Council approved 4 events:

 

·         Fox Garden’s 11th anniversary party – July 25: This event will benefit the Blazer 88 event through donations of products and funds raised from live music, outdoor bar, food, auctions and raffles. Passed with reminder needing the certificate of insurance and excise permit.

·         Blazer 88’s charity ride – August 22: The group agreed to allow to parking lot for bike when not in use.

·         Farm Treats on Main – October 24: no detailed information at this time.

·         MVCSC’s Miles for Meals Turkey Trot 5K – November 21: Will include police officers instead of just barricades.

·         Discussed 2 upcoming events: Halloween on Main Street October 24 10:00-2:00. There will be vendors and 2-25 non-profits with candy for distribution. Will not have semi-truck load of pumpkins.

·         Town approved the purchase of 2 2026 Ford Police Interceptors $48,809 each with equipment costing an additional $4,495 per vehicle

·         Considered the 1st reading of Ordinance 2026-6A which amends and restates the Town’s parking regulations due to need with parking issues near the new apartments,

·         Approved a notice to proceed with the Landmark Park project increasing from $149,800 to $649,800 to cover additional expenses. It was explained $1,941,000 due to additions like a bridge over a ditch, new parking area and swing set area, there is confidence the price will reduce. The project is expected to start late July or early August.

Infrastructure Project Funding Updates:

 

·         Town reported receiving a $2.2 million award letter from the MPO for the trail project from Portville Pike to North School campus, with bidding now scheduled for October pending historical property review.

·         Also discussed the progress on extending water and sewer lines south of 234, noting that AI Innovations has secured contractor bids and permits, though reimbursement agreement details are still being worked out.

·         Regarding the South Madison project, Town mentioned receiving final construction documents late last week, with Michael Garvey planning to meet with engineers to develop a construction plan once the agreement is finalized and bonds are closed within the next week.

Council Meeting: Policies and Budget

·         Developing a template for Fortville-specific naming rights policy and noted that the council could review it at the next meeting.

·         Formally approved the Vernon Township Fire Department budget for 2027 with a voice vote.

 

Recycling Event and Celebration Updates

·         The recycling event is rescheduled to June 20th due to a scheduling conflict.

·         Announced a month-long Stars and Stripes celebration, including a kickoff event on June 10th from 5-8 PM at Memorial Park with hot dogs, refreshments, and community activities.
