Hancock County Treasurer
Job Overview
The County Treasurer is an elected full-time position
Offices are located in the Hancock County Annex and regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8am until 4pm
Fixed term of four (4) years, for eight (8) out of twelve (12) years
Job Requirements
Must be a US Citizen 18 years of age or older at the time of assuming office
Must be and remain a current resident of Hancock County
Responsibilities
Custodian of all monies belonging to the county, works closely with the county auditor
Serves as an officer on the county Board of Finance
Develops policies for billing and collection of various taxes: real-estate, bankruptcy, inheritance, innkeepers, gross income, and delinquent taxes
Issues various tax clearances and permits
Conducts annual real-estate tax sale or sheriff sale
Oversees and advises on financial planning, procurement, and investment of county funds and loans
Forecasts future financial decisions and positions and submits county budget to state
Maintains positive banking and insurance relationships
Maintains a cash book of itemized receipts balanced daily which must be available to the public
Supervises about 4-5 full-time and part-time staff
Desired Qualifications (not required)
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or similar experience
Certified Public Accountant
10+years experience in accounts receivable/payable, financial book-keeping, and reporting for large organizations (with over $10M in revenues)
5+ years hiring, managing, supervising, and leading staff
Compensation
$59,003 annual salary in 2020, $2,269.35 bi-weekly, plus benefits
Elected officials do not qualify for unemployment benefits
