BACKGROUND:
After last meeting, letters were sent to wastewater ratepayers re impending rate increase. Current ordinance dealing with this rate increase was passed in 2024. Prior to passage of that ordinance, there were no rate increase for 20 years resulting in insufficient funds for current wastewater project.
SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT AGENDA ITEMS AND KEY POINTS:
Agreed to reimburse United Church on Main St. for drain repair they had done by local drainage business. Drainage issues were due to old tiles in the adjoining street.
Donations from recent fundraiser for K-9 program were accepted.
Plan Commission appointments: Brian Smith (re-appointment), Nancy Owens, Penny Hildebrandt (transferring from BZA)
Department reports:
· Town Manager reports that proposed apartment complex located at Health Way Park (600W & 52) progressing
· Treasurer reports that the state is starting a routine audit
Public Comments:
· Citizen complaints on impending sewage rate increases. ($43 rate increase to $134). Any future rate increases will require public hearings and a new ordinance. Council presented overview of wastewater project.
· Questions on the benefits of annexation of new Arbor Homes development raised and addressed.
o 2026 HEA 1001 statute limits architectural requirements local municipalities can enforce but safety requirements will be enforced.
