September 23, 2026 Jackson Township meeting notes

• Township conference: Additional money was added to personal services for the Indiana Township Association conference on October 7-9. Registration costs $650, excluding lodging.

• Volunteer fire department allowances: The annual clothing allowance is $250, and the automobile allowance is $250, for a total of $500 per volunteer. Members discussed encouraging volunteers to accept the allowances.

• 2027 budget and Capital Improvement Plan (CIP): The 2027 budget was approved. During discussion of the CIP. 

  • The trustee said she had contacted a company to walk through the cemetery, suggest improvements, and estimate costs. The work would be completed and paid for in stages over several years. 

  • Members also discussed paving (asphalt) the gravel parking lot.

  • 2027 budget: The board approved a total budget of $198,325:

    • Rainy Day: $5,000

    • General: $82,325

    • Township Assistance: $13,000

    • Township Fire and EMS: $83,000

    • Cumulative Fire: $15,000

• Fire chief vehicle: Members discussed obtaining a vehicle for the fire chief. A retiring county vehicle may be available to the fire department at little cost; the township would need to cover insurance. The chief currently drives his personal vehicle to emergency scenes and has had to pull over for other emergency vehicles responding to the same scene. Members discussed adding appropriate markings so the vehicle and chief would be identifiable.

• Township merger: Members reviewed reporting deadlines to ensure Jackson Township submits the required documents on time.
