Hancock County School Districts

There are four school districts in Hancock County: Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, and Southern Hancock.

Job Overview

  • This is a non-partisan elected position

  • Must be and remain a current resident of School District

  • Must not be employed as a teacher or employee of the school corporation

Responsibilities

  • No single member has power outside of legally chartered school board meetings

  • Sets school system’s vision, goals, and policies

  • Connects with and understands the community, its strengths and challenges

  • Employs a superintendent

  • Adopts operating budget and tax rate for school district

  • Authorizes expenditure of funds from the approved budget

  • Reviews and responds and acts upon recommendations from the superintendent

  • Delegates authority to staff

  • Monitors, assesses, and reports on school performance (key performance indicators and other metrics)

  • Reviews and selects school curricula, fees, calendars

  • Governs public hearings and meetings

  • Publicly promotes PUBLIC education and their school corporation

Desired Qualifications (not required)

  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Masters or Doctorate preferred

  • 10+ years educating students or serving educators

  • Proven passion for PUBLIC education

Requirements to Run

  • Must complete:

    • Statement of Economic Interests (CAN-12)

    • Petition of Nomination and Consent for School Board Office Elected (CAN-34) by deadline.
