There are four school districts in Hancock County: Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, and Southern Hancock.
Job Overview
This is a non-partisan elected position
Must be and remain a current resident of School District
Must not be employed as a teacher or employee of the school corporation
Responsibilities
No single member has power outside of legally chartered school board meetings
Sets school system’s vision, goals, and policies
Connects with and understands the community, its strengths and challenges
Employs a superintendent
Adopts operating budget and tax rate for school district
Authorizes expenditure of funds from the approved budget
Reviews and responds and acts upon recommendations from the superintendent
Delegates authority to staff
Monitors, assesses, and reports on school performance (key performance indicators and other metrics)
Reviews and selects school curricula, fees, calendars
Governs public hearings and meetings
Publicly promotes PUBLIC education and their school corporation
Desired Qualifications (not required)
Bachelors Degree in Education, Masters or Doctorate preferred
10+ years educating students or serving educators
Proven passion for PUBLIC education
Requirements to Run
Must complete:
Statement of Economic Interests (CAN-12)
Petition of Nomination and Consent for School Board Office Elected (CAN-34) by deadline.
