Hancock County Board of Commissioners: 6/16/26
HANCOCK CO. COMM. 06/16/2026
Terry Bynum Reporting
Shorter than the typical meeting. Normal business
Nothing earth shattering from Gary Pool in Hiway report. The board approved 2 contracts for engineering and construction of a roundabout at 200W & 500N–over $400K
Pool also reported that the Jack & Son's takeover is almost completed.
Parks & Rec is exploring purchasing 26 acres on 400N & 100W, on Sugar Creek–possibly using one of two grants they have(or will) apply for. Currently includes a disc golf course. Could be a park to park bike path created, or eventually canoes/boats from this property to Ninestar park. Next step is official appraisals of property..
With no fanfare, Commission approved a contract for pictometry for the assessors office. 6 year agreement at $114K per year. Pictometry is a patented aerial survey technique that produces oblique georeferenced imagery, capturing multiple perspectives of buildings and locations from low-flying airplanes.
Commission also passed 3 ordinances, the most important of which redefines what a commercial Data Center is, requires that Data Centers can only be built in areas zoned industrial, and requires a Data Center Overlay request be brought to the County Commission as the first step. Up to now, developers could bypass elected officials, depending on where they were trying to build.
Another ordinance cleaned up a previously passed ordinance regarding power generation facilities being built with an exception on land zoned agricultural.
They approved a contract for 911 to add a new, larger server to save video from cameras in county buildings.
They voted to approve another Amplify payment of 2.96 million.
AMPLIFY HANCOCK COUNTY grand opening on June 19.
