MEETING: New Palestine Town Council

Date: 6/17/2026 &7/1/2026

Recorder: Cathy Cooper

BACKGROUND:

Light agendas for both 6/17 and 7/1 with nothing under old business and new business. Public comments most significant.

SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT AGENDA ITEMS AND KEY POINTS:

7/1: Routine business followed by discussion of drafting a local ordinance that would permit the community eligibility for FEMA funding and grants from Fed. Government for preparations for natural disaster.

Public comment.

  1. 6/17: Citizen resident of Copperstone subdivision requests assistance from the town with enforcing problems with parking on street problems. Council response: This is the responsibility of HOA.

  2. 7/1: Dangerous intersection of 500W and 200S. Requests that the town council pressure the county government to initiate a temporary action be taken until the roundabout is built in 2028. Council response: aware of the problem and state it is out of their hands: DOT and Hancock County jurisdiction.

  3. 7/1: Sewer bills are increasing further to $125 per month. This is due to previous town council not doing due diligence by upgrading sewer system, then hiring a defunct company to upgrade (town lost money). Citizen response is why is money being spent on other items when this is a need. Currently a new company is developing the new water treatment plant. Council response: they have looked for grants and as more people connect the rates should go down.
